Master-ing!

Fantastic news—I've been offered a studentship from the AHRC to study for a Master of Research (MRes) in music at Keele University. I'm really, really excited at this—it gives me a chance to look deeply at my work and process in a focussed manner, and deepen my work in a way that I was not able to do outside the university structure and through learning myself [which is how I have normally learned music]. It'll keep me busy: but I'm expecting new work to come out of this, and am relishing exploring new techniques.

This is something that I'd been thinking about for about... um... a year or so. It was Adam Fairhall who convinced me I had the skills/experience to do it; and Paul Hession who also talked about his experiences. I owe a great debt of thanks to them both.

I forgot to also say huge thanks to Melanie Marshall, who pointed me to an article which got me thinking about my topic quite a lot in the first!

I was going to separate posts for the study onto its own mini-site, but since I already have a pretty good blogging engine right here, there's no need for me to make another one. You can "watch" any of the posts by e-mail, or subscribe to comments using RSS.
