Change to gig: Martin Archer's Engine Room Favourites—https://www.coreymwamba.co.uk/gig/general-1394393400

That's the gig admin done! Back to the music writing...

Four scores typeset! Had a brainwave this morning and was able to use Libreoffice Math to type up the scores for my main project. Eyes are burning though.

Nice walk in the damp! Very tempted to stop off... *

The more I write, the fewer words I seem to be generating.

I write more, less appears.

Writing nothing now.

Why is it so hard to write about your own work?

I've finally got to a point where the music for the MRes is written. Reading takes you on funny paths. All sorts of connections and networks are created in your brain; but describing those connections into a singular path is proving very difficult.

But I have Jackie Maclean to cheer me up:

That song is actually quite interesting. I've seen it described as "modal", but I think it's tonal...

The video I just shared shows Maclean playing it with a B to Bm motion in the A section...

Maclean's original recording of the song moves from B to B♭ major... I'll try to find a video.

The Bm in Little Melonae had come in when Miles Davis recorded it in 1955:

Ah! Little Melonae—low sound quality—but with the B major:

I'd shared this on Facebook last week, but forgot to post it here:

Why it's important to make programmes like that is very simple: sometimes we need to see people like ourselves to aspire.

The more chances we have to see a wide range of people achieving, the more inspiring it is to a wider range of people. It is that simple.

If there's an idea about bringing a wide range of people to your field, ask: can everyone see people like themselves doing what I do?

And some will remember this, when I posted my thoughts clinically to Twitter: https://www.coreymwamba.co.uk/rambles/1328092287

But perhaps it's time to be clearer. Not seeing people like ourselves does create a barrier to access.

That barrier isn't always something that can be fixed immediately, though. But realising it is there is a good move.

Understanding the barrier, and how to mitigate its effects, is a long conversation and [I think] a right step.

But we seem to spend longer on talking about WHO is creating the barrier, rather than the barrier itself.

My god. An update to PAM totally messed up the laptop, required a full re-install. Not upgrading anything now until after the essay!

New gig: Nat Birchall Quintet @ Leuven 2014—https://www.coreymwamba.co.uk/gig/nat-1395583200

The ever-expanding Fresh Hell of planning rehearsals for a new project.

Clearly the discussion needs amending, since "cite" is allowed to be used sensibly! http://html5doctor.com/cite-and-blockquote-reloaded/

Other than that, today is supervisor meeting day. Will I be able to corral the mess of ideas and make them look intelligent??

Bristol this evening with Nick Malcolm! Hope to see you there: possibly with cocoa? https://www.coreymwamba.co.uk/gig/general-1393194600

Meanwhile, will be scribbling music for school credits.

The Bristol train is rammed. It's late too, but that's less exciting.

Had a great time at St George's with Nick Malcolm last night; but now back to normal: waiting for a train.

Was six hours justifiable to update the code for the trio site? Who knows. But it's done!
