Entries for Nov 2012

It's my birthday today—so to celebrate, I'm sharing some of the tracks Dave, Josh and I recorded in March.

On the 3rd November this post will go—so please feel free to grab the album for a quid! It'll be released properly soon, and possibly not with these tracks...

Ah well. You don't do it right every day.

Sorry for the site problems if you've experienced any—a line had gone totally astray in a script, meaning my poor database had got a hammering. All fixed now [fingers crossed].

I was actually looking for Margie Hyams videos, but then came across this—a great driving track with Hyams on drums and a vibist I haven't heard of but will dig around for, Bridget O'Flynn!

I'll be on BBC Radio 6 this Sunday at some point between 10a.m. and midday, chatting to singer Cerys Matthews about the vibraphone. Hope you can tune in!

The BBC has archived my bit on Cerys' show! So if you missed it, you can give it a listen.

Really looking forward to the next few days in Newcastle—although obviously quite hectic and close to Orrery, and with minimal time of rest from getting back from London last week. If you're northwards and see me about, say hello!

I've put up the recording of me and Dave Kane from Manchester! You're free to download it—but it'd be great if you chose to pay, as I'm running out of free download credits! Hope you enjoy the music.

Newcastle was a joy! Four incredible days with Andy Champion, Sylvain Darrifourcq and Valentin Ceccaldi in our new band Sonsale [pronounced "son sal" ].

The gig itself was great, but too short; it's made me think about how some music requires a certain length of time.

The material we'd developed is the sort where I take my time. It's all too easy for me to narrow my eyes in joy and unleash line after line, but I found punctuating the music and allowing things to unfurl around me very liberating. The audience was fully engaged in the music, treating us warmly, talking to us afterwards and really loving the sound; and I feel totally encouraged about the next chapter!
