Argentum

This was a commission and a set for Derby Jazz to celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary. Geoff Wright asked me to put together a group and compose some music for the occasion, and I was lucky to have such a great team of creative musicians with which I could collaborate.

The music for the set is influenced primarily by poetry, and has interpretations of work by Pablo Neruda, Shakespeare, and Basho, as well as some of my short-form poetry. It combines elements of funk, early 20th Century Western chamber music and jazz from the late 1950s to 1970.
